Apprenticeship in IT
In our IT apprenticeship, you can specialise in one of three different fields: business IT, systems engineering and application development.Find an apprenticeship position
An apprenticeship with a lot of variety where we offer you ongoing support and the best possible preparation for your final exams and your future career. On the one hand you will be carrying out practical tasks within our organisation and on the other you will be completing a number of IT study modules at your local vocational college. You will spend the majority of your apprenticeship working at our head office in Basel in the department that corresponds with the specialist field you have chosen. To give you a comprehensive insight into IT in our company, you will also work for three-month periods in other IT departments. You will be supported by a specialist (practical trainer) in every location who will introduce you to your work and act as your on-site contact person.
As part of your training, you will attend an induction course to help you find your way around the company and take part in social events that will allow you to develop on a personal level. You will also have the opportunity to go on a group holiday at the end of your training.
You will, of course, enjoy IT and technology more than anything else and have a passion for numbers, science and maths. These are essential requirements, but we don't need to tell you that.
We expect you to speak and write German well and to have a good knowledge of all school subjects. These are our basic expectations. For this reason, you should have attended one of the following types of school: Bezirksschule (regional school), Sekundarschule (secondary school – middle or high level) or Gymnasium (grammar school). You can also start an apprenticeship after studying at a Fachmittelschule (specialist secondary school), Wirtschaftsmittelschule (business secondary school) etc.
An interest in learning new subjects and a thirst for knowledge will help you to become an IT specialist. You will show initiative, think outside the box and not be afraid to stand up for yourself. If you want to introduce new ideas, you will often need to be persuasive. As an IT specialist, you will definitely be working in a team, so you need to be outgoing and sociable.
You will complete your training with us at our headquarters in Basel in the field of on-site IT support. You are mainly concerned with solving hardware and software problems directly on the customer's premises or on the phone.
In the second and third year, you spend several months in other departments such as the helpdesk, network operations group or application development.
You will spend your training period in the systems engineering department at our head office in Basel. The work will mainly involve networks and the accompanying server software.
In the second and third years you will have the opportunity to work in other departments for a few months, including application development and IT support.
You will spend your training period in the application development department at our head office in Basel working with object-oriented programming languages.
In the second and third years you will have the opportunity to work in other departments for a few months, including the network operations group and IT support (helpdesk and user support).
