Apprenticeship in banking

Apprenticeship in banking

Take your banking apprenticeship at Baloise Bank SoBa. Apply now!

Start of the next training programme: August 2019

What you can expect

Our training programme will prepare you for the challenging role of bank employee. For example, during your training you will advise customers at the bank counter, provide information over the phone, prepare contracts and documents on the PC, analyse balance sheets, calculate property values for mortgages, monitor the stock market, draw up investment propositions and much more. In the practical component of your training programme you will change your workplace every three to six months and will always have a practical trainer on site as your contact person. This will give you an insight into most areas of our day-to-day business, which will help you to decide where you would eventually like to work.

Of course your training also has a theoretical component. This includes spending two days a week (one day in year three for the E profile – extended basic training) at the Berufsfachschule (vocational college) in the local region. You choose whether you want to take the E profile or the M profile. In addition to the vocational college, you will attend the Swiss Banks' competence centre for modern learning (CYP) around once a month.

This guarantees that as well as practical experience you have the necessary theoretical knowledge to carry out your everyday work professionally.

What we expect

Your role as a bank employee will undoubtedly be challenging. But we hope that the challenges will arouse your interest! During your training we will prepare you for your new role. Among other things, you will advise customers over the counter, provide information on the phone and draw up contracts and other documents on the PC. You will analyse balance sheets, monitor the latest developments on the stock market and much more. We will introduce you to the exciting and varied world of banking. The more questions you ask and the more you get involved, the more you will learn.

Two things that will definitely help you are the ability to work in a team and a sense of responsibility. It is important that you feel you want to achieve something and are prepared to show your initiative. We need reliable, well-mannered employees. We would also like you to have an excellent knowledge of German and the ability to make yourself understood in simple English and French. A good head for figures is essential in our business.

The challenging part of your apprenticeship will come in the vocational college. This is why it is important that you have a qualification from a Bezirksschule (regional school), Sekundarschule (secondary school – E or P level) or Gymnasium (grammar school). You can also start an apprenticeship after studying at a Fachmittelschule (specialist secondary school), kaufmännische Vorbereitungsschule (commercial college) or Handelsschule (business school) etc.

Trainees' experiences

Dominic Kol – trainee at Baloise Bank SoBa

"In the customer zone in Solothurn I work with customers every day helping them to set up standing orders and transfer money, for example. I find it really interesting being in contact with a lot of different people on a daily basis. The variety in my training programme also comes from working in different departments. Every few months I get to know a new area. The training also includes going to college and attending the CYP about once a month. This is where we learn about the theoretical side of banking and about networking information and bringing our knowledge together."
