Baloise as an employer Our culture - courageous & humane
At Baloise, you take centre stage as a person – with your ideas, your courage and your personality. You can make a difference.
The Baloise Code – our compass for working together

Ensuring safety and security through our conduct

Interpersonal interaction and the resulting corporate culture are fundamental – for us as individuals and for the strategic success of Baloise. After all, committed, motivated employees create satisfied customers, which leads to success.

The Baloise Code was developed by employees for employees for the first time in 2017. Since then, it has accompanied us in our day-to-day work and helps us foster a culture of respect. The code shows which values are particularly important to us in our dealings with each other, what we would like to focus on (interpersonally) and where we still have work to do.

Diversity and inclusion

By combining our differences, we can achieve more together than we ever could alone. Different personalities, diverse expertise: diversity is the driving force behind our special corporate culture. Over 8,000 employees in four countries bring our strategy to life and shape our future with their individuality.

Diversity and inclusion should be things we live and breathe here, but we also strive to measure and evaluate our progress in these areas using facts and figures. That’s why we take part in the University of St. Gallen’s Diversity Benchmarking programme, which measures different dimensions of diversity (e.g. gender, age, nationality and language) and lets companies compare their results with those of their peers.

Generational dialogue

Worlds collide where young and old work together. Baloise is a company where the courage to try new things meets sovereignty and expertise and where a modern mindset meets experience. Around a third of our employees are under the age of 35. At the same time, colleagues at Baloise stay with us for an average of over ten years. At Baloise, we want to learn from each other.

Equal rights

We are committed to achieving gender equality:

  • Equal pay analyses are performed to keep inequalities below 3 per cent.
  • We encourage part-time work in our field sales force as well as in all other positions.
  • Our talent is discussed on an annual basis, with a focus on women.
  • We are a sponsor of the Global Summit of Women in Basel and the Women Board Award.
  • Both internally and externally, we rely on series of talks and networks to maintain an open dialogue on the subject of equality.
LGBTQ+

“We want to show that even industries that are seen as more conservative can stand up for the LGBTQ community – not just during Pride, but throughout the year at the various companies.” – Fabrizio, lawyer at Baloise in Switzerland and co-founder of the JUMP! network

JUMP!, our Group-wide network for members of the LGBTQ community, has momentum and energy in its very name. The idea is to promote more openness, respect and appreciation in everyday working life. The network makes a valuable contribution to our culture:

  1. Internal information events at the general agencies
  2. Regular interaction with various LGBTQ organisations, especially in Basel (Basel Pride Together)
  3. Events, panel discussions and presentations, focusing on topics such as coming out, dealing with homophobia and transphobia in the workplace and best practice for managers
  4. After-work drinks
Intercultural cooperation

We work in four countries, speak various languages, come from different cultures – and we make a great team! We live and love our differences, seeking consensus and the right path to success together. Where you come from doesn’t matter to us. What matters is who you are and what you do.

Events

Our culture thrives on togetherness – and that includes life away from the office. We network over lunch, after work in the company bar and at events.

In dialogue with our Executive Committee

Talking to each other openly and exchanging ideas – it’s just part of who we are. With concepts such as “Snack with Clemens”, where the CEO of Baloise Switzerland engages in straightforward dialogue with employees, we create space for ideas and voicing concerns on an equal footing. They may be small, but these moments are important in ensuring transparency, trust and a corporate culture that connects.

ThemaTisch

Having lunch together is an important part of our culture, whether it’s a table for two, as a team or a mixed bunch brought together around the TopicTable. Every lunchtime, all employees are welcome to take a seat at the TopicTable, and anyone can contribute a topic. The large wooden table provided for this purpose is available in the Baloise staff restaurant.

Snow Days

This annual escape to the mountains has now achieved cult status. The whole company hits the slopes on the Baloise Snow Days – and in the evening, we meet up in the lodge to celebrate: team spirit and networking guaranteed!
